What’s the difference between ball-socket and tongue-clevis fittings?

Ball-socket (ball & socket) fittings use a clevis and tongue to connect insulators with a locking pin — preferred for transmission lines because they allow rotation during installation. Tongue-clevis fittings use a more compact bolted connection — preferred for substation and dead-end applications. Both are IEC 60120 compliant.

Can you customize insulator end fittings to my drawing?

Yes. Send your mechanical drawing, SML load, creepage distance and matching hardware. Our engineering team will confirm feasibility, recommend material (forged steel, ductile iron, malleable iron or aluminum alloy) and provide a quotation within 24 hours. Standard lead time is 15–30 days.

What material grades do you offer for power line fittings?

We offer forged steel (ASTM A668 / A668M), ductile cast iron (ASTM A536 Grade 65-45-12), malleable iron (ASTM A47), and aluminum alloy (ASTM B26 / B26M). Surface treatments include hot-dip galvanizing (ASTM A153), Dacromet coating, and epoxy powder coating for corrosion resistance.

Do your fittings meet IEC and ANSI standards?

Yes. Our fittings are manufactured per IEC 60120 (dimensional standard for ball and socket couplings) and ANSI C29 (American National Standard for insulators). Test certificates (mill certificates, mechanical test reports, galvanizing thickness reports) are provided with every shipment.

What is the difference between ball-socket and tongue-clevis power line fittings?

Ball-and-socket fittings use a spherical joint locked with a W-cotter or R-clip per IEC 60120. They provide flexiblearticulation and are ideal for insulator strings that are frequently assembled, disassembled or angled (suspensionstrings, jumper loops). Tongue-clevis fitings slide a flat tongue into a clevis fork and secure with a split pin per IEC60471, delivering higher shear strength for tension/ dead-end applications. Both families are available in 11/16/20
/24 /28 mm ball sizes and matching clevis pin diameters, with mechanical loads from 40 kN up to 550 kN SML.

What material grades and galvanizing are used for your fittings?

Ferrous fitings are forged or machined from medium-carbon steel (Q235B, 35#, 40#) or alloy steel (40Cr, 35CrMo)
for high-strength items. Non-magnetic and current-carrying parts use aluminum ally 6061-T6 or ZL101A. All steelparts are hot-dip galvanized per ASTM A153 Class B with an average zinc coating 85 um, plus stainless options(304 / 316) for coastal or corrosive environments. Every shipment is accompanied by mechanical-test reports(tensile, hardness, charpy), dimensional reports, and coating thickness records traceable to the heat number.
